Indeed it is hard to imagine Halloween without kids screaming those three words, “Trick or treat.” In addition, Halloween for kids won't be Halloween without them wearing their favorite, one of a kind costume. Here are some costume safety tips that will help you keep your child on the safe side. 1. Do not allow your child to wear a costume two sizes bigger or two sizes smaller. If the costume is too small, your child will end up having a hard time to breathe because the abdomen is being constricted. Other than that, his or her movement will be restricted because the sleeves are too tight and too short to allow him or her to fully extend his or her arms. If the costume it too big, your child will end up dragging it while walking and he or she might trip over it. 2. Face painting is very common during Halloween. Before you let anyone paint your child's face, always make sure that the face paint doesn't contain harmful chemicals like lead. This is important because some chemical ingredients of face paint can harm your child's skin and can result to even more damage if it is inhaled. 3. If your child's costume or get up requires him or her to bring a candle or a lighted torch, then it would be safer if you let him or her bring a toy candle that lights up rather than the real one. Candles and torches can be dangerous especially when a child is bringing it. We all know how reckless a child can be so the risk of him or her setting himself or herself as well as playmates on fire is very high. So a toy candle or torch is a much better and safer option. 4. Masks have always been a part of almost every single Halloween costume. These masks are used to hide the identity of the wearer. If the mask is too big, it might cover your child's whole face which can result to him or her having difficulty in breathing. Other than that, a mask may reduce his field of vision. So in case your child's costume comes along with a mask, make sure that it is the right size and it allows him to have a clear view of what is in front of him. 5. The materials used for your child's costume should also be taken into consideration. You wouldn't want your child to suffer some allergic reaction while going trick or treating now, do you? Because that would be a stressful situation and it can ruin your child's night. 6. If you are worried about losing sight of your child while going around the neighborhood, you can always sew or attach a reflective tape to your child's costume. This will allow you to spot him or her easily among the crowd. If that is not enough, you can let him or her bring a glow stick. Do not let your guard down even though you are having fun. Keep your child safe so he or she can enjoy Halloween as much as he or she can. |
